Sometimes It Takes Losing What You Were Settling For To Remember What You Deserve

0

It takes a loss to make us realize what we deserve.

It takes heartbreak to make us realize the kind of love we want.

And it takes falling in love with the wrong person to make us realize who’s really right for us.

It takes losing what we had to realize that it wasn’t what we really wanted or needed. It takes losing things to realize that we can do better. We’re destined for greater things. We’re meant to be with better people. We don’t deserve pain. We don’t deserve to suffer. We don’t deserve to settle.

Many things in life make us settle for things we don’t deserve. Maybe it’s loneliness, maybe it’s a lack of self-love, maybe it’s peer pressure, maybe it’s family traditions. It can be a lot of things we’re unaware of doing but we’re just conditioned to be a certain way or do certain things that we frankly don’t know why we’re doing it or who we’re trying to please.

Which is why losing things is the best wake-up call. It’s the beginning of you transforming your life. It’s the beginning of your self-awareness and your soul-searching journey to unlearn everything you’ve ever been told and listen to your own voice.

It takes losing people to find yourself.

We sometimes eat lies when our hearts are hungry. We believe that mediocre things are the best. We hold on to people who don’t respect us. We tell ourselves the lies we want to hear as we bury the truth because we just don’t want to live that kind of reality. We don’t want to wait another month or another year. We don’t want to start over. We focus so much on what we want that we end up forgetting what we deserve.

We sometimes spend our lives fighting for people who only hurt us and disappoint us. We fight for people who don’t fight for us. We fight for people who break our hearts because we think we’ll never find that feeling again or this chemistry or this vibe again. But it’s only when you fight just as hard to let go that you realize you deserve more. You deserve better. You deserve someone who doesn’t break your heart and call it love.

It took me a few years to get over certain losses in my life but when I look back now, I realize that every loss brought me closer to finding myself. Every loss taught me what I truly deserved. Every loss reminded me that there’s something greater to be gained.

The Type Of Guy You Tend To Attract Based On Your Zodiac Sign

0

Ever wonder what kind of significant other you tend to attract? Your zodiac sign is said to be reflective of your stronger traits and characteristics in terms of your overall personality, and it gives you a hint of other people’s major traits and personalities as well. Find out a little more about yourself and get an idea of the type of guy you are likely to attract more often.

Aries

You’re an energetic person, full of life and excitement and gusto for everything that crosses your path. Ironically, the guy you attract is often the complete opposite. He’s calmer, steadier, and more even-keel. He takes life seriously and slowly, and this can either be a perfect balance to your upbeat heart or lead to total frustration. Either way, your energy attracts someone who doesn’t always understand your passion, but still admires and craves it.

Taurus

Your steadiness is one of the most attractive things about you. Though it can often take you a little too warm up or to trust people, you are such a stable and devoted partner once committed. However, you often find yourself in relationships with guys who are struggling. Whether he’s broken by his past, having a hard time getting over an ex, or just has major issues letting you in, because of your patient and caring nature, the guy you often attract is the one you need to fix.

Gemini

You’re the type of person who craves connection. You love to be around people, to be constantly learning, and to be inspired. The type of guy you attract is someone you meet in a social scene, someone who appears to be just as passionate as you, but unfortunately, falls short. More often than not, you attract the guy whos putting on a facade. He appears to be confident, intellectual and curious, but after getting to know him, you realize he was just trying to charm you; the real him turns out to be kind of boring.

Cancer

You treat everyone like family. You have a huge heart and would do anything for the people you love. That’s why it’s obvious you attract the sensitive guy, the kind of guy whos emotional and in-tune with his feelings. The problem with this is that this guy ends up as a best friend, rather than boyfriend material. Because he feels so comfortable around you, and because you are able to open up with each other right away, he often turns out to be more of a brother than a BF.

Leo

You are bold. You are a leader, proud and in charge. You love to lavish the people around you with affection and gifts, which is why the guy you often find yourself with is the needy one. This guy is attracted to your big personality and gets easily swept up in your caring, giving arms. Though the relationship might appear positive at first, often you get too smothering and he gets way too clingy.

Virgo

You are a great listener, and someone who is trustworthy, calm and collected, no matter the drama you face. Because of your patient nature and your ability to often take on more than you should, you find yourself attracting the guy with baggage. He has a crazy past, a lot going on, and often brings a lot more chaos to your life than necessary. He’s attracted to you because you’re everything he needs comfort, security, care, and calm.

Libra

Your personality is rooted in your need for balance. You love things to be in order, to make sense, and to be in harmony. But sometimes you’re a little wishy-washy, unsure of what to do next or how you’re really feeling in a situation. That’s why the guy you attract the most is the guy who never completely serious about you. This guy is half-in, half-out. He sometimes acts like your boyfriend, and sometimes acts like he barely knows you. Maybe he reads your indecision as hesitation, or maybe he’s just a player whatever the reason, you’re never quite sure of his feelings for you.

Scorpio

Of all the signs, you are the most independent in the sense that you crave your alone time and need it to refresh. Because of your ability to be secure in your own person, the guy you often attract is the one in the same boat. He’s independent and self-sufficient. He doesn’t really a partner but does enjoy your company. The problem with this guy, though, is that he’s often too distant. Though you like being alone, in a relationship you long for closeness, and he’s not always good at providing that or really being there when you need him.

Sagittarius

You’re the explorer, the wanderer, the one who loves to live outside the norm. You are able to strike up conversations with ease and have a large group of friends. Unfortunately, you seem to attract the type of guy who just wants to tie you down. Maybe its because your personality makes you a total catch. Maybe it’s because of you’re everything he’s not. Whatever the reason, the guy you attract is the one who just wants to lock you down. And for someone like you, who hates being controlled, that is a big no-no.

Capricorn

You’re the type of person who takes life very seriously. You are a leader, driven and goal-oriented. You’re often working on something or striving to complete a project. This focus and dedication to the things you do often attract the guy who is lacking those qualities like the goofy, live-in-the-moment type of guy. This guy is the life of the party, the class clown. He’s always cracking jokes, making you laugh, and reminding you to not be so serious all the time. This can be great because he’s your counterpart or the opposite, and his unfocused nature can be detrimental to your core values.

Aquarius

You are an extremely selfless person. When it comes to someone whos struggling, you are more than happy to set aside your needs to be there for them in any way you can. You’re all about connections and closeness with people. Which is why you undoubtedly attract the player. This guy is all about sweet talk and sneakiness. You fall for his charm because you’re willing to be there for people, no questions asked. Unfortunately, he sees this kindness in you and takes full advantage. Be careful! Not everyone is as genuine with their intentions as you.

Pisces

You’re a daydreamer. Though you can be loud and silly and social at times, more often than not, you’re caught up in your own head. That’s why it makes sense that you attract an outgoing, confident type of guy. This guy is loud and out there; he brings you out of your shell. At first, he appears fun and totally into you, but when it comes down to it, he’s really just all about himself. That big personality you enjoy? It’s actually pretty cocky. He loves to be the center of attention, and for someone like you, who values deep thinking and authentic emotion, it just doesn’t work.

A Technique To Take Control Of Your Dreams Is Verified For The First Time

0
A technique to induce lucid dreaming has been independently verified for the first time, and might be even more effective when combined with others. More than half the participants lucidly dreamed during the trial, a record-breaking success rate in just a week without using external intervention.

Lucid dreaming is the term given to the state where the dreamer is aware they are dreaming, and has some control over how the dream progresses. Once considered a myth, science has confirmed lucid dreams exist, and found some methods work to increase the prospects people will have them.

Nevertheless, some of these require advanced equipment, while others are far from reliable. This is unfortunate both because people enjoy the dreams so much, and they are also considered a potential tool for healing traumas and controlling unhealthy behavior. Dr Denholm Aspy of the University of Adelaide wondered whether combining techniques would bring greater success.

Aspy instructed 169 participants in techniques developed to induce lucid dreaming. One of these, reality testing, gets people into the habit of regularly checking to make sure they really are awake. Mnemonic induction of lucid dreams (MILD) has participants set alarms to wake them after five hours and recite “The next time I am dreaming, I will remember that I’m dreaming” before going back to sleep. MILD practitioners also imagine what it would be like to be in a lucid dream.

In the journal Dreaming, Aspy reports reality testing on its own produced no benefit, but of those who tried the combination of reality testing and MILD, 53 percent had a lucid dream during the trial period, with 17 percent successful each night. He told IFLScience this exceeds any previous study conducted without interventions such as masks that shine lights in people’s eyes on detecting REM sleep.

Given the lack of benefit from reality testing alone, Aspy acknowledged the lucid dreams may be entirely attributable to MILD. He noted, however, his success rate exceeds that of previous studies of MILD, even those conducted by the inventor himself.

Approximately 55 percent of people have a lucid dream at some point in their life, but for most people these are rare. Aspy himself became interested in lucid dreaming after having one as a child, and changed his psychology PhD from studying non-verbal communication after having a lucid dream the night before he was to begin his doctorate.

Most lucid dreamers initially wake quickly but, Aspy told IFLScience, with experience can learn to extend them for up to an hour. Aspy is seeking volunteers for further studies, and told IFLScience he chose the one-week trial period in the hope of producing an effect quickly enough to be suitable for future studies of applications like treating nighmares.

A Family dog is discovered alive and well from California wildfires

0

Izzy’s reunion with members of her owner’s family has gone viral in the aftermath of devastating wildfires in California  (AP Photo/Jonathan Copper)

Jack Weaver and his brother-in-law Patrick Widen walked around police barricades, through a creek and up treacherous hilly roads to save Weaver’s mother from the grim task of recovering the body of the family’s beloved dog Izzy.

Katherine Weaver was convinced Izzy died in a ferocious wildfire that destroyed their Northern California neighborhood and sent them fleeing for safety, Katherine still in her nightgown.

When the men reached the end of the narrow road on Tuesday, Jack Weaver swore as he saw that the house was completely gone. But then Izzy suddenly came bounding out for a joyous reunion.

Jack Weaver, who was filming the scene for his parents, captured the moment on his phone in a video that’s gone viral on Facebook, providing a rare bit of good news amid endless scenes of severe destruction.

“She was very happy to see us,” Weaver said of Izzy, a 9-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog. “She’s such a brave dog. She was panting a lot and clearly stressed. But she was not frantic or anything.”

In the frantic race to escape in the middle of the night, the Weavers and many others were forced to leave behind their pets because they couldn’t be found or there was simply no time to get them. Thousands of people remained evacuated Saturday as fires continued to rage in California’s wine country and authorities said it was still too dangerous to return to burned-out neighborhoods of Santa Rosa.

Cellphone service was sketchy, but Weaver was eventually able to reach his mother, who was staying with relatives in the San Francisco Bay Area.

“She just lost it,” Weaver said. “She went from being devastated about losing her home to the being the happiest person I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t get home fast enough. She was really, really happy … She’s still shaken up by the whole thing, but she’s in much better spirits now that Izzy is at our house.”

Animal care workers are working overtime to feed and provide medical care for the pets who survived the inferno.

For Weaver, his first priority was telling his mother that Izzy survived.

A veterinarian said Izzy was fine, likely insulated from the fire’s intense heat by her thick fur coat.

At Sonoma County Animal Services, veterinarians and assistants are caring for 64 cats and 44 dogs, nearly all of them brought in from fire zones. Cats generally have the most severe injuries, including smoke inhalation, burned paws or singed fur and whiskers.

“The severity is often terrible,” said Dr. Katie McKenzie, the lead veterinarian. “Their paw pads are burned off. Or if they aren’t, they come off in the days following. So our goal is to treat them, to remove the tissue that is too burned to be saved and to provide them with pain medication, bandaging.”

Caretakers will change the bandages every 48 hours for as long as six to eight weeks, she said.

Shelter workers update their website every hour with photos of the pets they’ve rescued, and they’re fielding frantic calls from worried pet owners searching for their furry companions. Twenty five animals have been reunited with their owners, said Monica Argenti, a spokeswoman for the shelter, which is run by the county.

Who Is Most Difficult To Love According To The Zodiac Signs

0

The zodiac signs have their good and bad sides as it pertains to our personalities and characteristics. But when it comes to love, there are some a bit more difficult to get along with than others. This will help you get an idea of which may be more compatible with your own personality and which may not.

1. Virgo

Virgos are arguably the most self-sufficient of the zodiac signs. They also approach most relationships from a very analytical and almost managerial position. Even if it’s not intentional, Virgos automatically keep most people at arm’s length until they’re sure they can trust them. Thus, they’re not the easiest people to love. In order for a Virgo to love someone, they have to let their walls down and open up, which isn’t in their nature. Once they do they’re amazing partners, but it can definitely take some time for them to get there.

2. Scorpio

Scorpios are the queens/kings of not knowing what they want. They fluctuate between hot and cold like crazy and it makes them really difficult to read and subsequently, be with emotionally. A Scorpio can be an incredibly draining partner to be with which is why they often find themselves in and out of relationships. Frankly, until a Scorpio matures emotionally, they’re simply not ready for a real relationship.

3. Sagittarius

There are no sign more flighty, impulsive, and all over the place than a Sagittarius. In some ways, this makes them very exciting partners and whoever they’re with will never be bored. But on the flip side, it makes them nearly impossible to get to settle down. They’re constantly chasing the next thing, the next adventure, the next adrenaline rush. They are terrible at being still, at just existing. And that’s not very conducive to relationships. A Sagittarius will only feel content when they find someone who doesn’t just chase them, but runs right alongside them.

4. Aquarius

Aquarians are naturally reserved, private people. They aren’t inclined to open up and letting people in is absolutely not in their nature. It can be really difficult to read an Aquarius which keeps a distance between them and most people. An Aquarius needs someone who they can really trust and feel comfortable being vulnerable around in order to go all in and fall in love.

5. Capricorn

Capricorns are the picture of practicality, efficiency, and hard work. While this makes them incredibly reliable and a star employee or co-worker, it can also mean that they approach each and every relationship like a business transaction. No partner wants to feel like they’re being looked at and being weighed on a pros and cons list. A Capricorn needs to learn to trust their heart as much as their head in order to find real, lasting love.

6. Gemini

Geminis have a reputation for being indecisive and overly emotional. While to a certain extent this is true and can make communicating with them tiring, it also means that they love with all of their hearts and put all of their faith in what they feel. When a Gemini loves, they go all in. They hold absolutely nothing back and give all of themselves to their partner. It can be intimidating, being loved that much. But that level of vulnerability is something to commend someone, like a Gemini, for being able to do.

7. Leo

There’s no sign quite as dynamic and captivating as a Leo. Leos are incredibly independent, confident, and sure of themselves. So it’s important for anyone who is with a Leo to recognize that they’re never going to need you. But they are such a magical sign, it’s impossible to not be drawn to them. Leos make everything more exciting and engaging, so it’s no surprise that everyone loves them.

8. Aries

Active, exciting, and a beacon of passion, an Aries makes their partner the center of their world. They prioritize their partners and do their best to be their everything. Their cheerleader, their partner in crime, their shoulder to lean on. An Aries strives to be the go-to for whatever the person they’re with might need. Who could say no to loving someone like that?

9. Taurus

There is simply no sign more loyal and steadfast than a Taurus. When a Taurus loves someone, they’re in it for the long haul. They’re completely devoted and committed to the person who they love. A Taurus leaves nothing up to the imagination, nothing lingering in any sort of grey area. Everything is out on the table and you always have a clear-cut idea of where they stand. That sort of devotion and loyalty is rare and hard to find, so when you do it’s not something you’re inclined to let go.

10. Libra

All a Libra wants is for everyone to be content and happy. This goes for pretty much everyone on Earth, but especially for people who they’re in love with. A Libra would bend over backwards to make sure their partner is in a good place. They’ll do anything to make their person happy. They’re so easy to love because they show you the kind of love that’s possible to get from another person, and that’s something to strive to emulate.

11. Pisces

A Pisces arguably has the biggest loving, bleeding heart of the zodiac. They feel deeply, they’re all emotion, and they have no trouble expressing what they want and need from the people who they love. A Pisces puts everything onto the table. They leave nothing left unsaid. They’d walk through fire and back for the person who they love, and that sort of love is something you’ll only experience once in a lifetime.

12. Cancer

Cancers are the biggest nurturers, the biggest caretakers, the most likely to love unconditionally of the zodiac. They’re so forgiving, so patient. They’re a sign you can always count on to be there for you, day or night, no matter what. A Cancer perfectly exemplifies what love is supposed to look like. And in turn, how we should all love each other.

A Juice Company Dumped Orange Peels In A National Park. These Are The Changes That Happened.

0

In 1997, ecologists Daniel Janzen and Winnie Hallwachs approached an orange juice company in Costa Rica with an off-the-wall idea.

In exchange for donating a portion of unspoiled, forested land to the Área de Conservación Guanacaste — a nature preserve in the country’s northwest — the park would allow the company to dump its discarded orange peels and pulp, free of charge, in a heavily grazed, largely deforested area nearby.

One year later, one thousand trucks poured into the national park, offloading over 12,000 metric tons of sticky, mealy, orange compost onto the worn-out plot.

The site was left untouched and largely unexamined for over a decade. A sign was placed to ensure future researchers could locate and study it.

16 years later, Janzen dispatched graduate student Timothy Treuer to look for the site where the food waste was dumped.

Treuer initially set out to locate the large placard that marked the plot — and failed.

“It’s a huge sign, bright yellow lettering. We should have been able to see it,” Treuer says. After wandering around for half an hour with no luck, he consulted Janzen, who gave him more detailed instructions on how to find the plot.

When he returned a week later and confirmed he was in the right place, Treuer was floored. Compared to the adjacent barren former pastureland, the site of the food waste deposit was “like night and day.”

“It was just hard to believe that the only difference between the two areas was a bunch of orange peels. They look like completely different ecosystems,” he explains.

The area was so thick with vegetation he still could not find the sign.

Treuer and a team of researchers from Princeton University studied the site over the course of the following three years.

The results, published in the journal “Restoration Ecology,” highlight just how completely the discarded fruit parts assisted the area’s turnaround.

The ecologists measured various qualities of the site against an area of former pastureland immediately across the access road used to dump the orange peels two decades prior. Compared to the adjacent plot, which was dominated by a single species of tree, the site of the orange peel deposit featured two dozen species of vegetation, most thriving.

In addition to greater biodiversity, richer soil, and a better-developed canopy, researchers discovered a tayra (a dog-sized weasel) and a giant fig tree three feet in diameter, on the plot.

“You could have had 20 people climbing in that tree at once and it would have supported the weight no problem,” says Jon Choi, co-author of the paper, who conducted much of the soil analysis. “That thing was massive.”

Recent evidence suggests that secondary tropical forests — those that grow after the original inhabitants are torn down — are essential to helping slow climate change.

In a 2016 study published in Nature, researchers found that such forests absorb and store atmospheric carbon at roughly 11 times the rate of old-growth forests.

Treuer believes better management of discarded produce — like orange peels — could be key to helping these forests regrow.

In many parts of the world, rates of deforestation are increasing dramatically, sapping local soil of much-needed nutrients and, with them, the ability of ecosystems to restore themselves.

Meanwhile, much of the world is awash in nutrient-rich food waste. In the United States, up to half of all produce in the United States is discarded. Most currently ends up in landfills.

The site after a deposit of orange peels in 1998. Photo by Dan Janzen.

“We don’t want companies to go out there will-nilly just dumping their waste all over the place, but if it’s scientifically driven and restorationists are involved in addition to companies, this is something I think has really high potential,” Treuer says.

The next step, he believes, is to examine whether other ecosystems — dry forests, cloud forests, tropical savannas — react the same way to similar deposits.

Two years after his initial survey, Treuer returned to once again try to locate the sign marking the site.

Since his first scouting mission in 2013, Treuer had visited the plot more than 15 times. Choi had visited more than 50. Neither had spotted the original sign.

In 2015, when Treuer, with the help of the paper’s senior author, David Wilcove, and Princeton Professor Rob Pringle, finally found it under a thicket of vines, the scope of the area’s transformation became truly clear.

“It’s a big honking sign,” Choi emphasizes.

19 years of waiting with crossed fingers had buried it, thanks to two scientists, a flash of inspiration, and the rind of an unassuming fruit.

The post was updated 8/25/2017.

Stay Single Until You Meet This Type Of Guy

0

Stay single until you meet a guy who makes sure you walk on the inside of the sidewalk away from the street.

The guy who holds your hand shamelessly and will kiss you in public.

Stay single until you meet a guy who wants to bring you home to his parents.

Stay single until you meet the guy whose friend already knows about before you meet them.

Stay single until you meet the guy who will drop whatever to be wherever you need him.

The guy who says, “text me when you’re home safe,” and stays up until he knows you are.

Stay single until you meet the guy you’d proudly introduce to your father.

The one who doesn’t try and change you.

The guy who always texts back no questions asked.

Stay single until you meet a guy who doesn’t have time for games and is brutally honest always.

The one who pulls you close in public and kisses your forehead.

Stay single until you meet the guy pays out of respect for you and doesn’t let you touch your wallet.

Stay single until you meet the guy who keeps his word.

The one who knows when to apologize when he’s wrong.

The one who sends you flowers to your office, just because.

The guys who sends sweet texts in the middle of the meeting he knows you’re stressing over.

Stay single until you meet the guy who makes you want to be a better woman.

The one who motivates you to achieve more and be better.

Stay single until you meet a guy who is sure of you and never makes you doubt how he feels.

The one who is certain of you and his career and a future he wants you apart of.

The one who says I love you first just because he wants you to know.

Stay single until you meet the guy who never stops trying to keep you.

Because he knows getting you wasn’t the hard part but constantly giving you a reason to stay is what you deserve.

Stay single until you meet the guy who makes you feel more beautiful just standing beside him.

The one who still gives you butterflies when you walk in a room.

Stay single until you meet the guy who makes you not want to be.

The one who changes the standard you once had and suddenly no one can compare.

Until then. Stay single.

This high school senior is looking forward, and won’t let her sickle cell disease hold her back.

0

At first blush, LaTia Bell is just like any other high school senior.

She likes school, especially science, and keeps her grades up with college applications just around the corner. She just started playing tennis, and in her free time, she likes to read books and learn about sharks — her favorite animal. Like most other students in the U.S., the pressure is on to keep up, stand out, and excel as competition to gain college admission continues to grow more fierce.

What you can’t see is that LaTia, despite all of her work ethic and enthusiasm, is chronically fatigued all the time.

When it’s cold — and even sometimes when it’s not — her entire body is wracked with pain. She misses weeks of school at a time in the hospital. Even though she strives to be like any other girl, LaTia’s sickle cell disease prevents that from being possible.

All photos courtesy of LaTia Bell, used with permission.

Sickle cell disease is a blood disorder that can, to put it bluntly, make life hellish.

“It seems I always get sick around the most important dates,” LaTia says, talking about her sickle cell disease like it’s a mischievous imp rather than a painful and difficult disease. “Usually when I’m sick, I miss at least three days of school. So it is really hard.”

Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder that prevents a person’s red blood cells from becoming flexible, round, and healthy. Instead, they become rigid and crescent-shaped, unable to carry the amount of oxygen the body needs and dying off much faster than healthy blood cells do.

The result is that chronic fatigue LaTia is constantly faced with, along with other symptoms like intense, frequent pain resulting from a lack of oxygen being delivered to key body parts, causing muscles to seize up. People young and old living with sickle cell disease are also susceptible to strokes and infections and have to take medications that can take even more of a toll on the body.

The symptoms of sickle cell disease make even mundane tasks feel like impossible feats. Last year, LaTia missed weeks of school and more than a few tennis competitions because of her sickle cell crises.

But as a patient at the Aflac Center and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where many young people are taught to manage their sickle cell disease, LaTia has been taught to manage her symptoms. It also helps that she has a lot of optimism and drive to do what she loves.

“I don’t really let it hold me back from my dreams and what I love to do,” says LaTia.

In spite of the challenges her disease causes, she has her heart set on studying biochemistry in college — knowing full well that stress is one of the primary factors that can trigger her disease and send her to the hospital.

Regardless, she’s choosing to aim high. “I want to be a hematologist and a marine biologist,” she says. “I expect it to be very stressful, but I’m just ready to take it on.”

LaTia also hopes that she can use her passion for learning and knowledge to someday help other people like her.

There’s no cure for sickle cell disease — only developments in pain treatment that can make the disease easier to manage. But she wants to help find a cure.

“Sickle cell doesn’t only affect the patients. It affects the families too,” she says. “No one in the family likes to see a child suffering from such a terrible disease.”

“I’m doing it for the patients and for the families.”

Though her disease is beyond her control, so far, LaTia has been able to do everything she wants — it’s just more of a challenge.

Supported by the Aflac Center and Blood Disorders Center, with compassionate care and patient education and counseling, she has been able to chase her dreams with confidence.

Heading into her future, she’s confident in her ability to keep on accomplishing. “I feel invincible,” she says.

Ultimately, she hopes that finding a cure is within her reach. “I do a lot of spreading awareness through social media and things,” she says. “I want people to be aware of sickle cell and maybe help make a change.”

One thing she’s certain of is that she’ll be one of the people helping make that change, regardless of the obstacles in her way. “Sickle cell has made me feel down a lot, but you can overcome anything,” she says. “That’s what I’ve learned — that anything can be overcome.”

Tips For Developing Daily Positive Thinking ideas

4 Quick Tips For Developing Daily Positive Thinking Ideas

Let’s face it, it’s not really easy to build and maintain positive thinking, especially if you are constantly surrounded by negative energy.

But positive energy can help you become a better person – not to mention to keep you energized the whole time.

Hopelessly falling to negative energy is really easy, but keeping the positive side intact is a struggle.

However, there are ways to do if you want to build, develop, and maintain daily positive thinking ideas.

Developing daily positive thinking ideas isn\’t easy, but as time passes by and you are getting used to it, everything can go smoother.

You don’t necessarily have to be a saint to have these positive energies.

By doing these (seemingly) easy things, not only you will feel good about yourself, but you can actually help other people in need of support and encouragement.

Here are four quick tips for developing positive thinking:

1. Smile.

woman smiling

You may not realize it, but smiling can help you feel better about yourself as well as lifting your mood.

And when the others are smiling back at you, the feeling is priceless.

Moreover, smiling can actually help others feel good about themselves.

So, not only you are doing a good deed for yourself, you are also doing a good deed for others.

put yourself in someone else\'s shoes

It is always easy to be a drama queen.

You can act as if the world revolves around you.

However, try to put yourself in others’ position and imagine what you would feel if you see others play this drama queen act.

It’s not nice, is it? Knowing that you aren\’t putting others in miserable or depressive mood is good to help you stay positive.

A lot has to do with the energy you put out.

Chances are if you are being unfair, giving an attitude, or being mean and you know it, expect to receive a similar energy exchange in one way or another.

Simplified Steps That Could Help Build Self-Confidence

0

Building self confidence can be a tough thing especially for those who struggle with issues of self esteem. But the good news is that self confidence is something that can be developed. In fact, it’s among the few things in life that one can learn to develop. So, how exactly does one gain self confidence when they are struggling with issues of low self esteem?

The following tips should help you see an improvement where building self confidence is concerned.

How to build self confidence in 5 steps

1. Don’t pay attention to negative thoughts

Being positive when situations don’t allow it is the hardest thing you can do. However, with a little practice, you can still be able to tackle negative thoughts and stay positive of the situation.

There might be lots of problems in your life. But in as much as problems affect you emotionally and drain energy, it’s all in the mind. The mind tricks you into believing about how negative people will judge you. But at the same time, the mind can be conditioned in such a way that it thinks positively. It’s usually the first place where self confidence is developed.

2. Set small goals and achieve them

You don’t have to tackle big goals which are unachievable. However, the smallest goals you set and accomplish can make all the difference. You have to concentrate on the smallest things that can be ticked off the list. These are the easiest to accomplish. They are also the things that will slowly build your self esteem, knowing that you are able to accomplish them.

3. Concentrate on your strengths

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. But you must not only concentrate on your weaknesses alone. That’s because weaknesses bring negative thoughts in your mind. But on the other hand, the things you’re good at will bring positive thoughts in your mind. So it makes sense to concentrate on your strengths because these are the things that will encourage you into getting convinced that you’re capable of achieving what you thought was impossible.

4. Deal with your fears

Fear is an obstacle that is built in the mind. It’s never real. Therefore, if fear makes you worried, begin by recognizing why you’re so fearful. Then ask yourself whether you should allow that fear to stand in your way.

For example, if you’re not so confident about asking your boss for a raise in salary, you could still go ahead and ask them for that raise. After all, there will most likely be positive or negative outcomes. They might say Yes or no. They might also bring issues of you not performing quite well. But if they say no, you have nothing to lose, and you shall have tackled your fears at the same time. The smallest things you do build your self confidence.

5. Never compare yourself with others

The reason why building self confidence is an issue with many people is because they compare themselves with the success of others, then they believe they are failures.

However, the fact is, even the wealthiest in the world suffer from their own unique problems. Furthermore, there will always be someone who is smarter and wealthier than you. But at the same time, there will always be someone you’re smarter than. That’s how nature is supposed to balance things. There’s no reason to believe that you’re inferior when you can actually do greater things that someone else cannot do.

Developing self confidence is something that does not happen in one night. Taking all the steps mentioned above into account, you still have to practice them to get it right. But the most important thing is not to allow negative mind to control you and your confidence.
