Keeping A Distance From Drama And Negativity Has Its Benefits

0

Why You Should Keep Your Distance From Drama And Negativity

They are all around us at home, school, work, and even social places – people who suck up your precious time and positive energy to fuel their unrelenting hunger for drama and negativity.

Whether you want to call them, drama queens (and kings), energy vampires or just unhappy people, they’ll leave you emotionally drained, stressed and very unhappy if you don’t have effective strategies to handle them. Often, these people are overly negative, critical, argumentative, intrusive, blames others for their problems, and unnecessarily blow petty issues out of proportion.

For your own sanity and overall well-being, stay as far away as possible from such people. You deserve to be around positive people who live you feeling energized and upbeat; people who recognize and appreciate the beauty within you and inspire you to reach your full potential; those who love unconditionally.

Not, people who constantly bring you down with their drama and negativity. Keep reading to learn how to live a life free from drama and negativity.

Know How To Identify Them

When you meet drama queens or negative people for the first time, you may be entertained by their displays of theatrics, intrigued by their quirkiness, or they may leave you wanting more of their stories and gossip. However, after a few encounters, you’ll realize that’s something isn’t right.

You may find yourself experiencing mental confusion, irritability, loss of energy, sadness, muscle tension or even headaches. Don’t ignore your instincts and physical reactions. They’re simply telling you that you have energy suckers in your life.

There are 2 more important things to consider…

Be Direct

Drama and negativity, are not just toxic to your health, but to relationships too. That’s why you shouldn’t tolerate such bad habits around you. Once you’ve identified the overly negative, dramatic and intrusive in your life, tell them politely and directly that you value them as family members and friends, but you’re finding it difficult to be around them.

Let them know that you will not tolerate such behaviors if it happens next time. Of course, you should expect to hear a million reasons justifying why they’re like that, but don’t allow yourself to believe their stories.

Cut-Off Or Limit Contact

Only you can control your life. You have the power to decide who stays in your life and who goes. Therefore, if you feel like you’ve been tolerating energy suckers for too long, it’s time to make that difficult decision – end your relationship with them. Of course, this won’t be easy especially if the person in question is a lifelong friend or family member.

The best way to go about it is to limit the amount of time you spend with him or her. For instance, when you’re around such a person, start off your conversation with something like this – I have only a few minutes with you before I have to … (fill in the blank please). Once that time is over, excuse yourself politely. This way, they won’t have enough time to start their unending theatrics or negative stories.

Overall, you’re in total control over your life. You get to decide what words to use to impact someone else’s life, what your thoughts are going to be and what actions you’re going to take. Why not make other people’s lives a little brighter and better? Always act out of love and as you do so, keep your distance from drama and negativity. It’s the only way to be happier, healthier and more peaceful in this life.

Is There Such A Thing As Overnight Success?

0

You may have already planned of losing weight and you spent a day at the gym burning some unwanted fat. You weigh yourself hoping that you have shed some extra pounds in a just a day of working out. Unfortunately, the numbers on the weighing scale stays the same. Nothing has changed. You have tricked yourself into believing that exercising like crazy for a day will instantly melt those fats away, but no one can attain overnight success and with that being said, nobody can have overnight failure as well.

There are times when we are being hard on ourselves. We want to be successful in an instant but we are completely clueless about the formula for success. If we always have a shortcut to attaining success, we can end up getting frustrated and lose focus on the goals we are trying to accomplish. Those promises of overnight success will never come into existence unless, you start accepting that the changes you want happens gradually and not immediately.

Success is something you build with time, there are no shortcuts. It is an experience you have where you gather experience gradually.

Life is all about growth and change, which is the journey we have been on. We skip the happiness connected with our experience if we solely concentrate on the final result. To put it differently, we skip from life itself.

However, if we went on throughout our lives without knowledge of where we are being led by it we will never reach achievement and won’t have any focus. We need to completely appreciate and encounter each day’s offerings, and understand that we are moving ever nearer to the recognition of our success and achievement in the long run.

Knowledge and understanding doesn’t bring success overnight

We can make great use of the accumulative nature of life to help move us almost naturally and steadily toward success. Yet, before we can do this, we should embrace a mindset that is different to how we view the accumulation procedure.

Individuals have linked their positive mental anchors to immediate gratification, instant results, and immediate success. They don’t have any patience, nor do they get any enjoyment along the way. They merely need the result without having to do the work. The issue with this mindset is that life simply will not work that way.

Life is about change and growth, which is the journey we have been on. We miss the pleasure connected with the experience if we solely concentrate on the final result.

On the other hand, if we live without knowledge of where we are being led by it, then we will never reach success and won’t have any focus.

Understand it is moving us ever nearer to the realization of our long term success, and we need to completely appreciate and experience what each day offers.

How we can start creating success the right way

Remember to always have an optimistic sense of being and approach: There are no such things as barriers: There are only times that allow us to look at things from a different angle and approach it as so.

Each challenge is a chance to acquire just about any ability.

Constantly keep a spirit of cooperation with others: A chain which is flawlessly interconnected is formed by the activities of each individual. Everyone adds their own value, and work will be far better if you work in cooperation with others. Be inspired.

Strengthening our internal confidence

This aspect is a fundamental part of being human, internal security that is created from the beginning, that the baby is brewing and what positively or negatively affect the life of the person. If you suffer from insecurity, indecision, uncertainty, constant, the need for others to make decisions for you because you do not feel able to take that responsibility then you are missing styling success in your life and conquer wonderful goals that life can you present, for it is important to work with your strengths and weaknesses so that you habitués to relate to and trust that you take responsibility for life without avoidance.

How A Paradigm Shift Could Change Your Life Dramatically

0

When you are a child, it is from all the people around you, and your environment that you start to develop habits which later on develop into a paradigm. When you shift your way of thinking by altering your habits and therefore affecting your subconscious mind, you start to experience drastic changes in your life.

Bob Proctor illustrates this beautifully. The main point however, is that once you reach a certain age, you start to become more conscious of everything that surrounds you, the way you act and perceive the world around you is dictated mostly by your subconscious mind.

The various experiences, habits, and beliefs that you develop throughout your life, starts to show itself reflected in the life you live on a daily basis.

This is one of the big reasons why an intelligent and bright person remains broke is miserable in his or her life and a less educated individual can create financial success and live a happier life overall.

As you get a basic understanding of how habits, beliefs, and experiences all mesh together to form a paradigm in your mind, you become better equipped to shift it into a more positive paradigm that has the power to create a more fulfilling life.

Transcript excerpt:
Hello there and welcome. It’s Bob Proctor here. I’m gonna take you back in time and space by using this flip chart here. I know we’ve got all kinds of technical razzle-dazzle today. But I wanna communicate this idea to you. First, let me ask you a couple questions. Have you ever wondered why you look like your relatives? Have you ever wondered why you have many of the habits or idiosyncracies that mom and dad or grandma has? These are good questions. Have you ever wondered why you keep getting the same results over and over and over again?

Have you ever asked yourself why individuals who have phenomenal education, they have degrees coming off the end of the business card, are not doing very well while others, who maybe never saw the inside of a school, earning millions of dollars and building giant organizations and doing all kinds of good all over the world. Have you ever asked yourself these questions? I did. In fact, I have spent the past 55 years asking nothing but those questions.

And you know something, seek and go find is good advice. If you’re looking for it, you can find it. I’m gonna explain why all these things happen. I’m gonna explain paradigms in such a way that a child could understand it but I’m not gonna insult your intelligence. Now let’s think for a moment. Our mind controls everything.

Dr. J. B. Rhine said the mind is the greatest power in all of creation. Now I have had people say to me, wait a minute, God is the greatest power. Wait a minute, God is the greatest power, the mind is the greatest power in all of creation. God being the creator, mind is the creation.

Now, let this here represent your subconscious mind. And this represent your body. Do you know your subconscious mind is programmed with something called a paradigm. Do you know what a paradigm is? A paradigm is a multitude of habits.

Now a habit is nothing but an idea that is fixed here in the subconscious mind that you act on without any conscious thought. And it’s our actions that produce our results. If we wanna get really technical, it’s the action causes a reaction, and the action/reaction alters the condition, circumstances, environment in our life. Now we are programmed genetically, that’s why we look like our relatives.

But then after birth, we’re programmed with our outside world. If you were born, let’s say, in New Jersey to an English speaking, Roman Catholic family but you were taken to China and placed in the suburbs in a home that maybe knows nothing about English, they might be Buddhists, they might not have any religion. Do you know that you would grow up fluent in Chinese and have absolutely no knowledge of the English language.

Do you see, whatever goes in from the outside world when we’re children becomes programming. We’re programmed genetically and then we’re programmed environmentally. Well, at a certain age, a psychic barrier comes up here. And we develop something that’s called a conscious mind. And the conscious mind has hooked up to it sensory factors. You can see, hear, smell, taste, touch. And here we have higher faculties. We have something called intellectual factors. We have perception, intuition, the will, reason, imagination, all these marvelous tools here. Now there’s a power that flows into our conscious mind and we have the ability to think anything we wanna think. Do you know what we’re gonna think? We’re gonna think thoughts that are in harmony with the paradigm.

Because play with this.

The paradigm controls the vibration that your body is in. And make no mistake about it, your body is in a vibration. Vibration is the law of the universe. The law of vibration decries every moves, nothing rests. This physical instrument we’re living in is in a very high speed of vibration. If you looked at it through a microscope, you’d see it dancing right before your eyes. In fact, if you put your body in a completely dark room in front of an infrared television camera, you’d see yourself as a glistening, radiating, gleaming form.

Semyon Kirlian in a way back 1934, the Russian photographer, he perfected a form of photography where you can photograph mass, the body, and you will see the ray of energy coming from the body. See, there’s a power that flows into you, and it flows to and through you. And when it comes in, it has no form. Now you can build negative ideas or you can build positive ideas. We build ideas that are in harmony with the paradigm.

Do you know why? If the paradigm is built with ‘x’ type energy, you’re gonna think ‘x’ type thoughts. If you have been raised with the paradigm where lack and limitation is common, it’s just the way it is, you’ll never become wealthy. If that is the thinking, oh, I know, intellectually we know we can become wealthy, but the paradigm says no. You will probably take this power that flows into your conscious mind that you could make anything out of it you want, and you’ll make ideas that are in harmony with the paradigm.

Because it’s the idea that you impress upon the subconscious that controls the vibration. And if you start to impress ‘y’ ideas, you’re gonna move into a very uncomfortable vibration. What would be a ‘y’ idea? A ‘y’ idea would be quit your job, sell your house, take the money and invest it in a business so you can be your own boss. That’s a ‘y’ idea. That’ll scare the daylights out of most people. Why? Because it’s not in harmony with the paradigm.

Now your paradigm is controlling your results. You can have people that have all kinds of degrees here. Intellectually, they’re brilliant, but the results don’t match. You’ll find other people, no formal education, no business experience, the results, they’re earning millions of dollars. Why? It’s the paradigm.

Some Of The 10 Most Colorful Animals

0

Clownfish

The world is made up of many different striking creatures that each have their own stories. They vary in color, size, and many other things! Some may make you laugh, others can look quite scary, but each to their own. All of these animals are different, but the ones that will be shown here, are the colorful ones! So without further ado, I present, top 10 colorful animals.

1. Panther Chameleon

Pantherchameleon

The first on the list is one that contains many colors, in fact they can even change the color of themselves! The Panther Chameleon is comprised of red, white, blue, green and a little bit purple. It has the amazing ability to be able to change the color of itself  in order to hide itself. Plus the fact that the change of color can be affected by light, temperature and the mood of the chameleon. All in all, it is a very colorful animal!

2. Sockeye Salmon

Sockeyesalmon

You might be thinking, “How can a fish be considered colorful?”. Well the Sockeye Salmon certainly is a fish to look out for due to its ability to be able to change its color to its environment. They are normally a color that consists of blue and silver, but they turn red and green before they start spawning. So the Sockeye Salmon is one colorful fish!

>3. Bird of Paradise

Male bird of paradise

This bird immediately catches your eye, its feathers are very colorful! The male Bird of Paradise showcases its beautiful colorful feathers, in fact he dances, poses, and even goes as far as to change his shape to woo the ladies! Although the females aren’t very colorful, they still must be impressed with this bird’s color on his feathers. Sadly though, some species are endangered because they have a great cultural significance to the natives of New Guinea. So their feathers and skins are often traded.

4. Temminck’s Tragopan

Thetemminckstragopan

Next up is the Temminck’s Tragopan! At first look, its chest will be the first thing to catch your eye. The nice arrangement of blues put together with a bit of red make this bird colorful! Next thing that you’d see is the bird’s orange and brown quiff. This pretty bird is found in the forests of South Asia. To include, the blue color on its face is not part of the feathers, it’s actually skin! But, it’s no shock that the Temminck’s Tragopan is considered to be the world’s most handsome pheasant.

5. Weedy Sea Dragon

Theleafyseadragon

Now this following animal is certainly interesting and not to mention, it’s also colorful. The Weedy Sea Dragon, as it is called, is usually found off the coasts of Australia, where given its leafy appearance allows it to be able to hide among seaweed when threatening predators may pass by. Females can produce up to 250 eggs at a time, and the male looks after them. He wouldn’t be able to lose them either, because they’re a bright color of pink! Very colorful indeed!

6. Blue-Footed Booby

Bluefootedbooby

Ah, now its time for the Blue-Footed Booby. Chances are the first thing that’ll catch your eye on this little fella is his feet! They resemble blue boots, so props to the male Booby’s with having some sense of style to them! But in fact, it’s the Booby’s blue feet, or “boots”, that attract females to them. Luck is particularly with them during mating season which is when the blue boots turn even brighter in their favor! These birds are found in the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific, but they can also be found on many other tropical and subtropical islands too!

7. Clownfish

Clownfish

Nemo! Yes it’s the classic yet colorful Clownfish coming to show! With its bright orange color along with the white stripes on its body, it is indeed pleasant to see. Although they are covered in slime.. But this is crucial to the Clownfish, the slime helps protect it from the anemone’s sting. So the Sea Anemone and The Clownfish are nice partners in crime if I’d say so myself!

8. Lesser Flamingo

flamingo

This pink feathery creature is certainly a sight to see. But do you actually know why flamingos have pink feathers? Lesser Flamingos get their pretty pink color from the pigment of the algae they eat. This species of Flamingos are the smallest and most stunning of the flamingo family. They are found in Africa and also in some parts of Asia. But they are prey to animals such Baboons, Eagles, and Wildcats. One things for sure though, pink suits them!

9. Sailfish

Sailfish

At number nine we have The Sailfish. It honestly is a very stunning creature. At first thought, you’d think that the blue stripes on them are just there for show. But they aren’t! In fact when the Sailfish is hunting, the stripes light up confusing their prey and also letting fellow  hunters know what they are in the act of doing. Now this a very clever and helpful way of using your colorful stripes as an advantage. Not only do they have an interesting way of using their stripes, but they are also very fast! Clocking up to 70 miles per hour, it is the fastest recorded speed of a fish. Another thing to know is that the sail on the fish is most often kept folded down, but it is raised when the fish feels threatened in order to make it look bigger than it actually is. To conclude, the Sailfish is stunningly beautiful with its colors and speed!

10. Monarch Butterfly

Monarchbutterfly

Have you ever been standing around when suddenly you see a butterfly fly past you? They are beautiful right? But have you ever seen a Monarch Butterfly fly past? Their appearance will catch your interest in a second. The bright orange is such a nice color that goes quite well with the black and white on their wings. Colorful butterflies they are, sure, but their colors do serve for another purpose. The colors on a Monarch Butterfly serve as a warning sign to predators that basically says “Don’t eat me! I’m poisonous!”. Monarchs are also most known for their southward migration in North America when winter arrives. Something interesting to know is that it is the only butterfly to migrate North to South, like birds often do, so it is simple amazing. For its lovely colors and mighty migration, the Monarch Butterfly is one outstanding creature.

Hurricane Irma is now a powerful Category 5 storm, Florida declares state of emergency

0

Hurricane Irma continued to strengthen Tuesday as an “extremely dangerous” Category 5 storm, prompting states of emergency in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Florida, sending residents to stores to prepare for the worst.

Irma’s maximum sustained winds had increased to near 180 mph, and the storm was located about 225 miles east of Antigua, moving west at 14 mph, the National Hurricane Center said in its 8 a.m. ET advisory.

“Some fluctuations in intensity are likely during the next day or two, but Irma is forecast to remain a powerful category 4 or 5 hurricane during the next couple of days,” the NHC said.

Irma’s center was expected to move near or over the northern Leeward Islands late Tuesday and early Wednesday before affecting Puerto Rico by Wednesday, the hurricane center said.

“Irma is now one of the strongest hurricanes we have witnessed in the last decade as a Cat 5 storm with winds of 175 mph,” Fox News Senior Meteorologist Janice Dean said Tuesday.

Outside of the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, the NHC said Irma is the strongest hurricane in history in the Atlantic basin according to agency records.

Hurricane warnings were issued for 12 island groups in the Caribbean, including the British Virgin Islands, where the governor urged those who could to evacuate the tiny island of Anegada ahead of the storm.

The forecast for Irma remains ticky for over the weekend as it approaches South Florida by Saturday night into Sunday, as the storm is expected to make a sharp turn to the north as a trough moves into the region, according to Dean.

“Irma is now one of the strongest hurricanes we have witnessed in the last decade as a Cat 5 storm with winds of 175 mph.”

– Janice Dean, Fox News Senior Meteorologist

“Florida and the Southeast U.S. should be paying close attention to the forecast and any changes over the coming days, while South Florida and the Florida Keys should be preparing for potential impacts from a dangerous Category 4 hurricane this weekend,” she said.

Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rossello warned that all decisions taken in the next couple of hours would make a difference between life and death.

Authorities warned the storm could dump up to 10 inches of rain on parts of the Caribbean, cause landslides and dangerous flash floods and generate waves of up to 23 feet.

“This is not an opportunity to go outside and try to have fun with a hurricane,” U.S. Virgin Islands Gov. Kenneth Mapp warned. “It’s not time to get on a surfboard.”

While Irma’s potential impact on the U.S. mainland is not yet fully known, Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency Monday to ensure “local governments have ample time, resources and flexibility to get prepared for this dangerous storm.”

“In Florida, we always prepare for the worst and hope for the best and while the exact path of Irma is not absolutely known at this time, we cannot afford to not be prepared,” Scott said in a statement.

FLORIDA GOV. RICK SCOTT DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY AHEAD OF HURRICANE IRMA

Some residents across South Florida spent Labor Day stocking up on supplies in case Irma nears, instead of buying items for barbecues.

“Obviously, get ready ahead of time. We have food, as you can see,” shopper Jacqueline Kimbrough told WSVN of her preparations. “We have our music. We just have a good time. We don’t worry about it and we pray.”

Some supermarkets reported being out of water as of late Monday, WSVN reported.

At a Home Depot in Hollywood, Fla., shoppers stocked up on hardware and supplies such as batteries and flashlights.

“Better to be safe than sorry,” shopper Jeff Davis told WSVN. “It could potentially be a Category 4 or 5, and I can’t prepare Thursday or Friday, so now’s the day to do it.”

Further north on Florida’s Gulf Coast, residents weren’t taking any chances, and spent Monday making sure their disaster kits are ready for whatever the storm brings.

“Definitely better now than when it’s too late,” Chance Burnett told FOX 13 Tampa as he loaded cases of water bottles into his trunk.

“We’ve got a lot of cases of water and a lot of canned foods, tuna, Chef Boyardees,” said Burnett. “And then, we are on our way to Home Depot and we are going to stock up on flashlights and batteries.”

At Home Depot in Tampa, tarps, gas containers and generators were among the most popular items being bought by shoppers. The generator shelves were restocked on Monday morning, but were already sold out by the afternoon

Assistant store manager Chrissy Lenze told FOX 13 the store expects a new shipment this week, and they have plenty of other supplies.

“Mostly plywood, water, flashlights, tarps for afterwards, sandbags to prepare,” Lenze said. “We want to be the last ones to close, first ones to open during a storm.”

On Puerto Rico, which will feel Irma’s effects by Wednesday, residents braced for electricity outages after the director of the island’s power company said that storm damage could leave some areas without electricity for four to six months.

Ricardo Ramos told radio station Notiuno 630 AM “some areas will have power [back] in less than a week.” The utility’s infrastructure has deteriorated greatly during a decade-long recession, and Puerto Ricans experienced an island-wide outage last year.

Both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands expected 4 inches to 8 inches of rain and winds of 40-50 mph with gusts of up to 60 mph.

The last Category 5 storm to hit the United States was Hurricane Andrew in 1992. An estimated 250,000 were left homeless and the storm caused more than $20 billion in damage in the Bahamas, Florida and Louisiana. Fifty-five people were killed.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Black Hole 100,000 Times The Mass Of The Sun Discovered Right In Our Galaxy

0

Astronomers from Keio University, Japan, have observed what looks like the largest intermediate-mass black hole within the Milky Way. The object is estimated to weigh 100,000 times the mass of the Sun and is located near the center of the galaxy.

The study, published in Nature Astronomy, focused on a large molecular gas cloud almost 200 light-years from the center of the Milky Way. The team was able to study how the gas is moving, which is consistent with having a massive compact object at its center, which they named CO–0.40–0.22*.

The researchers also noticed how the emissions from the gas cloud resemble the core of the Milky Way, where the supermassive black hole of our galaxy is located, although 500 times less luminous. There’s also quite a difference in size as the Milky Way’s supermassive black hole, called Sagittarius A*, is over 4 million times the mass of the Sun.

“This is the first detection of an intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH) candidate in our Milky Way Galaxy,” lead author Dr Tomoharu Oka told IFLScience. “This supports the merging scenario of the formation/evolution of supermassive black holes in galactic centers.”

The team already suspected the cloud hosted an IMBH, but this is the first detection of a point-like radio source. The new observations were possible thanks to Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array whose sensitive antennas were ideal to pick up the extremely cold emissions of interstellar carbon monoxide clouds. The team compared the observations to numerical simulations of the gas cloud and they agreed with the idea of an intermediate-mass black hole hiding within. The team believes CO–0.40–0.22* to be one of the most promising candidates for an intermediate-mass black hole yet.

The discovery of potential new black hole is always an exciting affair but this is particularly important because it provides us with important clues to how supermassive black holes formed. Black holes form in supernova explosions but their size is very much related to their stellar progenitors. So how can black holes exist that are millions, if not billions, of times the mass of our Sun?

One main theory suggests that in the early universe black holes formed a lot more often because the stars were a lot bigger and burned through their fuel more quickly. These black holes would merge, eventually reaching hundreds of solar masses in size. At that point, they would merge with other similar sized black holes and become supermassive black holes.

The team is continuing observations of the source, and they hope that within just a decade of observations they’ll be able to describe how it’s moving across the galaxy and if it’s going to merge with Sagittarius A*.

10 Ways You’re Making Your Life Harder Than It Has To Be

0

1. You ascribe intent.

Another driver cut you off. Your friend never texted you back. Your co-worker went to lunch without you. Everyone can find a reason to be offended on a steady basis. So what caused you to be offended? You assigned bad intent to these otherwise innocuous actions. You took it as a personal affront, a slap in the face.

Happy people do not do this. They don’t take things personally. They don’t ascribe intent to the unintentional actions of others.

2. You’re the star of your own movie.

It is little wonder that you believe the world revolves around you. After all, you have been at the very center of every experience you have ever had.

You are the star of your own movie. You wrote the script. You know how you want it to unfold. You even know how you want it to end.

Unfortunately, you forgot to give your script to anyone else. As a result, people are unaware of the role they are supposed to play. Then, when they screw up their lines or fail to fall in love with you or don’t give you a promotion, your movie is ruined.

Lose your script. Let someone else star once in awhile. Welcome new characters. Embrace plot twists.

3. You fast forward to the apocalypse.

I have a bad habit of fast forwarding everything to its worst possible outcome and being pleasantly surprised when the result is marginally better than utter disaster or jail time. My mind unnecessarily wrestles with events that aren’t even remotely likely. My sore throat is cancer. My lost driver’s license fell into the hands of an al-Qaeda operative who will wipe out my savings account.

Negativity only breeds more negativity. It is a happiness riptide. It will carry you away from shore and if you don’t swim away from it, will pull you under.

4. You have unrealistic and/or uncommunicated expectations.

Among their many shortcomings of your family and friends is the harsh reality that they cannot read your mind or anticipate your whims.

Did your boyfriend forget the six and a half month anniversary of your first movie date? Did your girlfriend refuse to call at an appointed hour? Did your friend fail to fawn over your tribal tattoo?

Unmet expectations will be at the root of most of your unhappiness in life. Minimize your expectations, maximize your joy.

5. You are waiting for a sign.

I have a friend who won’t make a decision without receiving a sign. I suppose she is waiting on a trumpeted announcement from God. She is constantly paralyzed by a divinity that is either heavily obscured or frustratingly tardy. I’m not disavowing that fate or a higher power plays a role in our lives. I’m just saying that it is better to help shape fate than be governed by it.

6. You don’t take risks.

Two words: Live boldly. Every single time you are offered a choice that involves greater risk, take it. You will lose on many of them but when you add them up at the end of your life you’ll be glad you did.

7. You constantly compare your life to others.

A few years ago I was invited to a nice party at a big warehouse downtown. I was enjoying the smooth jazz, box wine, and crustless sandwiches. What more could a guy want? Later in the evening, I noticed a steady parade of well-heeled people slide past and disappear into another room. I peeked and saw a large party with beautiful revelers dancing and carrying on like Bacchus. Suddenly my gig wasn’t as fun as it had been all because it didn’t appear to measure up to the party next door- a party I didn’t even know existed until just moments before.

I do this frequently. Those people are having more fun. Mary has a bigger boat. Craig gets all the lucky breaks. Ted has more money. John is better looking.

Stop it.

Always remember what Teddy Roosevelt said: Comparison is the thief of joy.

8. You let other people steal from you.

If you had a million dollars in cash under your mattress, you would check it regularly and take precautions to insure it is safe. The one possession you have that is more important than money is time. But you don’t do anything to protect it. In fact, you willingly give it to thieves. Selfish people, egotistical people, negative people, people who won’t shut up. Treat your time like Fort Knox. Guard it closely and give it only to those who deserve and respect it.

9. You can’t/won’t let go.

These are getting a little harder, aren’t they? That’s because sometimes you have to work at happiness. Some hurdles are too difficult to clear by simply adjusting your point of view or adopting a positive mindset.

Do you need to forgive someone? Do you need to turn your back on a failed relationship? Do you need to come to terms with the death of a loved one?

Life is full of loss. But, in a sense, real happiness would not be possible without it. It helps us appreciate and savor the things that really matter. It helps us grow. It can help us help others grow.

Closure is a word for people who have never really suffered. There’s no such thing. Just try to manage your loss. Put it in perspective. You will always have some regret and doubt about your loss. You may always second guess yourself. If only you had said this, or tried that.

You’re not alone. Find someone who understands and talk to that person. Reach out for support. If all else fails, try #10 below.

10. You don’t give back.

One way to deal with loss is to immerse yourself in doing good. Volunteer. Get involved in life.

It doesn’t even have to be a big, structured thing. Say a kind word. Encourage someone. Pay a visit to someone who is alone. Get away from your self-absorption.

When it comes down to it, there are two types of people in this world. There are givers and there are takers. Givers are happy. Takers are miserable. What are you?

Harry Potter Prequel On Voldermort Is Actually Happening

0

Just when you thought you’d never get another opportunity to explore the magic within the walls of Hogwarts, Warner Bros. has given the official go-ahead for an unofficial Harry Potter prequel about Voldemort.

Tryangle Films, the creators of live-action fan film Voldemort: Origins of the Heir, launched a Kickstarter campaign last summer but quickly ran into a copyright battle with Warner Bros., which owns the movie rights to the Potter franchise. Perhaps thanks in part to a precedent set after a lawsuit between Axanar Films and CBS over a Star Trek fan film, Warner Bros. and Tryangle were able to come to a compromise about the Voldemort project: So long as the film is released not for profit, for free on YouTube, it gets the green light, according to Polygon.

A trailer for the project went live on YouTube over the holiday weekend and quickly racked up millions of views.

As director Gianmaria Pezzato explained to Polygon, Voldemort: Origins of the Heir seeks to explore the nebulous time in Tom Marvolo Riddles character development between Hogwarts, Borgin and Burkes, and his ascent to the most feared dark wizard in the magical realm. We wondered, What made Tom Riddle become Voldemort? What happened in those years, and what really went down at Hogwarts when he came back? Pezzato said. There are some clues in the books which have not been transposed at all in the movies, but a lot goes unspoken.

The film is slated to begin post-production work in the summer, targeting a YouTube release before the end of 2017. Fans can learn more about the cast and crew on the Tryangle Films website, or follow along with updates onInstagram.

The High-flying Heroes That Are Saving Animals From Kill Shelters

0

On a clear, sunny day, Galaxy took flight.

The lanky white German shepherd soared high above the clouds on a private plane, a far cry from the streets of Southaven, Mississippi, where she was found. After getting used to the motion, Galaxy settled in to relax. She was finally going home.

Galaxy is one of the many lucky pets rescued and transported by Pilots N Paws, a nonprofit that pairs volunteer pilots with animals in need.

Pilots N Paws (PNP) was created in 2008, when Debi Boies asked pilot Jon Wehrenberg to help her fly a Doberman from Florida to South Carolina to save it from a cruel fate. The successful flight sparked the idea to rescue and relocated more animals a service that is sorely needed.

Despite the success of spay and neuter campaigns, pet overpopulation remains a serious issue, and kill shelters are common, with an estimated 1.5 million dogs and cats euthanized each year. This problem is especially pronounced in parts of the rural South where there is limited access to affordable spaying and neutering services and poorly enforced leash laws.

PNP has more than 5,000 volunteer pilots using its online message board to look for animals in need of relocation.

Some pilots may be flying for business or pleasure and will pick up an animal headed to or from their destination. Others will take to the air specifically for PNP missions, each about 300 miles, bringing their kids or families along. It's a great way to volunteer, take to the skies, and see a new city outside of lunch at the airport.

PNP executive director Kate Quinn shared a recent e-mail from one of the pilots who wrote, "For me personally, I love to fly, my kids and I love animals, we always adopt rescue dogs. PNP gives me a rewarding reason to fly rather than just getting a burger."

The organization boasts another 12,000 volunteers on the ground who assist as foster parents, help out with transport to and from the airport, and coordinate rescues and pick-ups from shelters. A few of these volunteers have even started taking flying lessons so they can fly for PNP.

This year, PNP pilots will transport more than 15,000 animals.

Since the organization's founding, more than 150,000 animals have been rescued and relocated, including sweet Galaxy.

After getting picked up in Mississippi, she was taken in by a white German shepherd rescue in Tennessee then flew with pilot Jim Carney to her foster home in Alton, Illinois.

All of this may seem like a lot of work, time, and effort to save one pet, but it's bigger than that.

Each animal rescued becomes a beloved family member, trusted companion, loyal best friend, or even a hard working service dog. The animals are grateful beyond measure to live out their lives with loving families. For the humans, the gratitude is mutual.

"It's amazing to see the pilots stay in touch with the adoptive homes. They'll get Christmas cards and updates," Quinn says. "It's something that has a ripple effect. … I think it just enriches peoples lives."

After all, they're good dogs, Brent. And good people too.
