Remember This Book? The Author Confessed What It’s Really About & It’ll Leave You With Heartache

0

If you have not read it, in summary, the story chronicles the life of a mom and boy as the young boy grows up. Through the sleepless nights as a baby to his ‘terrible 2’s’ and his pre-teen years where mother wanted to “offer him to the zoo,” she still liked him fearlessly and unconditionally, always ending the night with the very same song as she rocked her boy to bed …

I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
As long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be.
“Love You Forever” has been a popular children’s book for 30 years…but it’s NOT about what you think.

Robert Munsch’s Love You Foreverwas published once upon a 1986, but its legacy lives on even today.

As a kindergartener, I remember sitting cross-legged and staring doe-eyed at my teacher, Mrs. Duff, as she read that book to us over and over during story time. You’d think it would eventually get old, but our whole class sat in a circle just as mesmerized by the tale each time it was read as though it was the first time our ears heard those memorable words that made our eyes well up with tears:
I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
As long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be.

As the boy grows older and leaves home to start his own family, his mother occasionally sneaks into his bedroomto rock her grown man with her customary lullaby. (In hindsight, as an adult, that part sounds a tad creepier than it did when I was five, but the moral of the story is still undeniably sweet.)

Eventually, his mom grows old and very sick and she calls her son over to sing the song to him, but she could only make it halfway through. Knowing that she wouldn’t be able to hold on much longer, he began rocking her in his arms, singing the lullaby full of love that had carried him through his largely defiant life. Afterward, he went home saddened but found new hope in rocking his own baby girl to sleep with the same heartfelt words that would forever carry on his mother’s legacy.

Though the message in this story and the song seems pretty clear, it’s probably not about what you think. It is actually inspired by the author’s two stillborn babies.

Munsch shared this statement on his website:
I made that up after my wife and I had two babies born dead. The song was my song to my dead babies. For a long time I had it in my head and I couldn’t even sing it because every time I tried to sing it I cried. It was very strange having a song in my head that I couldn’t sing.

For a long time it was just a song, but one day, while telling stories at a big theatre at the University of Guelph, it occurred to me that I might be able to make a story around the song.

Out popped Love You Forever, pretty much the way it is in the book.
Wow. It’s amazing that this explanation coming out 30 years later can totally alter the meaning of this book. Yet in a sense, it’s all the same, perhaps that’s why this timeless tale has lived on.

On the face of it, the story seems to be about a mom who will never stop loving her son as big as he grows or as long as he lives, but really, it’s the same for stillborn babies and miscarriages. Just because they were taken to heaven early, doesn’t mean their parents’ love died along with their flesh. In the same way, they will be loved forever, long after they’re gone.

So for the big boys, the baby girls and the little angels in heaven, this tune will remain forever true:
I’ll love you forever,
I’ll like you for always,
As long as I’m living
my baby you’ll be.

Now, those are 18 beautiful words worth remembering for always.

Cop Kneels In Street At Dawn To Comfort Abandoned Pit Bulls

0

It was still dark out at 4:30 a.m. when Patrick Hennessey drove to work in Orange County, FL.

He thought it was going to be a morning like any other, till he saw mysterious shapes cringe in the middle of the roadway. Slowing down, he was shocked to find the shapes were two pit bulls. One was injured and bleeding, and they each chose not to leave the other’s side.

Hennessey instantly called the police. Soon, Deputy Reed and Deputy Boggs from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene. The canines fidgeted, but seemed calm when the officers approached them carefully.

Pit bulls are in a precarious situation thanks to misconceptions about the breed. Because people think they’re inherently violent, they’re often passed over in shelters, abandoned, and euthanized. In particularly gruesome circumstances, they’re even exploited as fighting dogs.

But anyone who’s been around one knows how sweet they are, and how they’re willing to make friends with just about anyone, even a cranky chicken.

On the street, the officers gently led the dogs off the road to a safe area.

By that point, the dogs were convinced the officers were there to help. They snuggled up to them, looking for a little comfort after what must have been a harrowing night.

[H/T: The Dodo]

Deputies Reed and Boggs arrived on the scene at 4:30 a.m. in Orange County, FL, surprised to find two frightened, seemingly abandoned pit bulls cowering in the middle of the street.

They’d been spotted by a man driving to work, who immediately called for help. One of them was injured, bleeding from her leg.

After moving the pit bulls out of the road, it became clear that they were in serious need of some comfort. The officers were more than happy to oblige.

The dogs leaned against them and cuddled them. No one’s sure what they went through, but it seems it was a lot.

The officers applied gauze bandages to the one dog’s injured leg, stopping the bleeding.

The dogs both had collars, so it’s possible they were intentionally abandoned.

Deputies Reed and Boggs stayed with the dogs until Orange County Animal Services arrived. They took the dogs to the local shelter, where they were checked out, cleaned up, and given time to rest.

You can see more of what Orange County Animal Services does on their website and Facebook, and consider donating to make sure pups like Liberty and Justice get the care they need.

This Is What Happens When You Light 6,000 Matches

0

John Walker is the inventor of the first match. He was an English chemist and although there were other matches that existed in the past, Walker’s matches were the first to be mass produced and they were also safe for use.

Now, lighting a match can be done in a more creative way. Have you ever heard of match dominos?

If you have 20 boxes of matches and a luxury of time, wouldn’t you be tempted to add an element of creativity and entertainment in lighting matches? Of course, you have to keep in mind that this should not be done at home.

Since you will be literally playing with fire, this can be a dangerous idea. It should not be done indoors or on a wooden table. It can create fire and things may not turn as planned.

Here is an interesting video that shows how match dominos are made.

5 Super Easy Things You Can Do Daily To Save Money

0

Sure enough we all go through the struggles of financial hardship at one time or another. It’s not easy to overcome even when you are making the necessary steps to move forward from just staying afloat. While you work on yourself, whether it’s learning new skills, upgrading your resume to land a promotion or a better job there are some things you can do to help you in the process so you don’t over-stress yourself if you’re running short on money.

Most days I wake up and find myself wishing I were independently wealthy, living off my substantial trust fund. I could go on trips and hire people to pay my bills for me. I could be comfortable. I could not worry about saving money because Id already have a bank account full of it.

Alas, this is but a dream.

I am not independently wealthy, and I have to work to support myself. I have to pay my own bills, so I know exactly how much everything costs, from my expensive electric bill to my more expensive cell phone bill.

Its exhausting, but its reality. As a result, I’m constantly looking for ways to save money and stretch every dollar I make. This mentality is what helps me save for friend trips to other countries, tickets to concerts and multi-course anniversary dinners. The kinds of experiences you remember forever, you know?

In that spirit, here are 11 easy things you (and I) can do every day to save money.

1. Make your own coffee three times a week.

Spending 2 dollars here on a coffee and 4 dollars there on a latte doesn’t seem like much, but it really adds up after a while. Instead make your own coffee at home Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Save fancy barista coffee for Monday and Friday as a special treat to start and end the week.

2. Go grocery shopping with a list every week.

The more groceries you have in your house, the more options you’ll have for meals and the more likely you’ll be to eat at home. The more you eat at home and cook those raw ingredients, the more money you’ll save on restaurants and takeout. Its simple logic.

But grocery shopping is more than the effort of pushing a shopping cart through the aisles. You want to make sure you’re shopping smart once you’re there, too. Preparing a list will help you avoid last-minute decisions driven by exhaustion and hunger.

No more will you be compulsively snacking on graham crackers while throwing anything that sounds remotely appetizing in your cart.

I would totally like to see Sebastian Stan, the actor who plays Bucky in the movie Captain America play as a young version of Luke Skywalker from Star Wars. Kuddos for the instagram user who first saw this and actually photoshoped his face with the same hairstyle.

However this doesn’t necessarily mean he would fit the role and stuff, but thought it was an interesting resemblance.

Check it out, can you see the big resemblance here on the image shown?

Young Bride Dip-Dyes Her Wedding Gown To Include A Stylish Splash Of Color

0

%image_alt%

It’s white if there’s one standard color in weddings.

Ever since Queen Victoria started the pattern in the 19th century, it’s become the wedding event color for bride-to-bes. There are all type of accessories and styles to pick from, but for the most part, white is the way people go usually.

However, naturally, some individuals just require a little extra color for their special days.

A new pattern that’s been hitting wedding events is one that integrates the classic white wedding dress with a burst of unforeseen color. Exactly what is it? Dip-dyeing!

This technique sees the color creeping up from the bottom hem in a beautiful gradient, as if the fabric of the dress had been dipped into dye. Depending on the dress, these can be just a single color, or multiple colors, but they’re all stunning and unique.

So if you want to try something a little different but maybe you’re not ready to go to the complete opposite end of the color spectrum from the classic white, you need to check these out!

[H/T: My Modern Met]

%image_alt%

The dip-dye fad was popularized by this wedding dress, with its bold, sunset colors that made the Internet fall in love.

%image_alt%

The dress is actually the handiwork of artist (and bride) Taylor Ann Linko, who bought a plain, cheap wedding dress and then embellished the bottom using an airbrush.

%image_alt%

Linko actually details the process on her website, complete with all the trial-and-error experimenting!

But to have a gorgeous, one-of-a-kind dress on your special day? So worth it.

%image_alt%

The dress was a huge hit, and not just among the wedding guests. The Internet became enamored with the striking dress.

%image_alt%

And combined with her colorful hair and a cascading bouquet, it was really a beautiful look.

%image_alt%

Of course, she’s not the only one jumping on the dip-dye trend. This wedding dress only uses a single color, but the warm orange is a beautiful splash of color.

%image_alt%

It’s an unexpected way to add some personality to an otherwise simple, classic gown.

%image_alt%

Other designers opt for something more subtle. This flouncy tulle gown has a soft, delicate blue ombre effect, making it look like a beautiful little cloud.

%image_alt%

The nice thing about this style is that the possibilities really are endless, and can be made to reflect the personality of the bride.

%image_alt%

And it’s a great way to combine the traditional white gown with something a little different and modern.

%image_alt%

And they can be as bold or as subtle as you like. This dress only has a bit of color on the very bottom, but because it’s so little, the effect is even more striking.

%image_alt%

But then again, a richer, bolder color like this mulberry color are lovely, too.

This dress features some tie-dye-like effects, too, which adds texture and interest.

Do you know someone who likes to do things theirown way? Then SHARE this beautiful trend with them!
